A Bahamian caterer who accepted a "good faith contract" with the fraudulent Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland to prep thousands of meals and provide lodging for VIP partygoers -- and found herself cooking without pay for stranded festival patrons -- has raised more than $100,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. Maryann Rolle, proprietor of the Exuma Point Bar and Grille, near the site of the disastrous Fyre Festival, said she dipped into her life's savings to pay workers who labored around the clock -- even though she herself never saw a dime.

The US protagonists in a viral fundraising campaign for a homeless man have been charged with theft by deception and conspiracy. Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico raised more than $400,000 (£313,000) for homeless ex-marine Johnny Bobbitt. But in August, Mr Bobbitt launched legal action against the couple, claiming he did not get his fair share. Now, prosecutors in New Jersey say Mr Bobbitt was complicit in the alleged plot. All three face the same charges.

40 billion phone calls predicted in 2019, half expected to be scams
A new study predicts 2019 will see 40 billion mobile phone calls, but they also expect about half of those to be from scammers. Tech company First Orion recently announced scammers are picking up efforts in their 2018 Scam Call Trends and Projections Report. Topeka resident Randy Austin said over the years he’s received more and more spam calls.

Many of us are already conditioned to ignore phone calls from unknown numbers. A new study seems to validate that M.O. By next year, nearly half of the mobile phone calls we get will be scams, according to a new report from First Orion, a company that provides calls management and protection for T-Mobile, MetroPCs, Virgin Mobile and others.
