Valsartan is off-patent and is used as a component of other generic medicines. Novartis, the company that originally developed the drug, said Sandoz valsartan and valsartan/HCT film-coated tablets are being recalled since they "do not meet our high quality standards."

    Toyota is recalling about 645,000 vehicles worldwide to fix an electrical problem that could stop air bags from inflating in a crash. The recall covers certain Toyota Prius and Lexus RX and NX SUVs. Also covered are some Toyota Alphard, Vellfire, Sienta, Noah, Voxy, Esquire, Probox, Succeed, Corolla, Highlander, Levin and Hilux models. All were produced from May of 2015 to March of 2016.

    Check your fridge: Ground turkey recalled after metal shavings were found in packages

    At not-food-in-food recall on Monday night covers 38,475 pounds of ground turkey, including the Publix store brand, that might have metal shavings from the processing equipment. In addition to Publix ground turkey and ground turkey breast in 1.3-pound styrofoam trays, 1.2-pound trays of Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey and 1-pound trays of Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast are covered in the recall. All have ink jet printing on the side of the trays with the numbers 7268 and 7269.

    LCBO recalls 1.14-litre bottles of Bombay Sapphire gin

    The Liquor Control Board of Ontario is recalling 1.14-litre bottles of Bombay Sapphire London Dry Gin because the incorrect alcohol content is shown on the label. The LCBO says the affected product has been removed from all of its stores’ shelves. The Crown corporation says the recall was initiated after an investigation by its quality assurance team found the alcohol content was 77 per cent, instead of the 40 per cent declared on the label.

    Frozen hash browns recalled due to possible golf ball contamination

    Roundy's and Harris Teeter brands of Southern Style Hash Browns are being recalled because the company fears golf balls were harvested and processed with the potatoes. McCain Foods USA, Inc. is voluntarily recalling the frozen hash browns. In a statement, the company said, "despite our stringent supply standards," the golf balls "may have been inadvertently harvested with potatoes used to make this product."

    Senator: Exploding e-cigarette recalls need to be considered

    U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is increasing the heat on the federal government to consider recalling e-cigarette batteries and devices that explode and catch fire, injuring users. Schumer, a New York Democrat, has called e-cigarettes "ticking time bombs" and said they continue to cause injuries including severe burns. At a press conference Sunday, Schumer cited a recent Associated Press story saying the FDA identified about 66 explosions in 2015 and early 2016 after recording 92 explosions from 2009 to September 2015.

    Samsung is targeting Galaxy Note 7 holdouts

    Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone is officially going down in flames. On December 19, the smartphone maker will roll out a software update that will render those few Galaxy Note 7 phones that are still in the wild completely useless. "To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19 that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note 7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices," Samsung said in a statement.

    American Airlines attendants say new uniforms make them sick, demand 'full recall'

    American Airlines rolled out new uniforms to more than 70,000 of its frontline workers in September. The appearance of the uniforms was well-received, but now American’s flight attendants union is calling for a total recall after saying the outfits have sickened more than 1,000 workers. Complaints about itching, rashes, headaches and hives surfaced within the first few weeks of the uniform roll-out. American launched an investigation, initially saying that it thought the issues were isolated – possibly some sort of wool allergy.

    The Department of Transportation did not mince any words: Starting mid-Saturday, the Samsung Galaxy Note7 will be "considered a forbidden hazardous material under the Federal Hazardous Material Regulations." That means the smartphone will join the same category as flammable aerosols, fireworks, lighter fluid and light-anywhere matches: not allowed aboard a plane, whether it's in your pocket, a carry-on bag or a checked suitcase.

    Eggo waffles recalled amid listeria fears

    About 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles are being voluntarily recalled in 25 states because they could be contaminated with the bacteria listeria, Kellogg Co. announced Monday on its website. The Michigan company said it has received no reports of illnesses and learned of the potential problem after routine tests. No other Eggo products are affected by this recall.
