NJ Transit Train Derails at Penn Station; No Injuries
New Jersey Transit says limited service has been restored in and out of Penn Station following an earlier train derailment at the nation's busiest train station. Service was suspended in and out of Penn Station Thursday night for several hours after a NJ Transit train derailed in a tunnel at 9:10 p.m., officials said.

The National Association of Rail Passengers denounced the budget outline released by the Trump Administration, which slashes investment in transportation infrastructure. The increase in reports to Southern Rail, which is embroiled in a bitter industrial dispute, has raised suspicions that drivers are making up the alleged problems to boost their cause. Southern Rail has experienced a rise in recent months in allegations that cameras that allow drivers to shut doors on their own are breaking down. Every alleged fault reported means the train is taken out of service leading to further delays.

'My shift has finished': Spanish train driver abandons 109 passengers in the countryside
More than 100 train passengers were left stranded in Spain after the driver decided to down tools and disappear when his shift ended. The train stopped outside the village of Osorno at 9.15pm on Tuesday night, two hours after it left Santander in northern Spain on course for Madrid. “The driver said he had finished his work shift and there was no substitute, so he stopped the train and got off,” a spokesman for the Civil Guard police force said. One of the 109 abandoned passengers said they were told the train had stopped for technical reasons.

US to invest $2.5bn in high-speed rail expansion
US vice president Joe Biden has announced plans to lend railway operator Amtrak $2.45bn (£1.86bn) to expand services and make upgrades. Amtrak's plans include expanding high-speed trains between Washington DC and Boston. The vice president said "America needs to go big on infrastructure" investment. Rail infrastructure in the US lags many other developed countries, particularly in terms of high-speed trains. The new trains, which Amtrak expects to begin running in 2021, will have initial speeds of up to 160mph, but will be capable of speeds up to 186mph.
