Wish, An Enormous 11-Acre Land Art Portrait in Belfast
“Wish” by artist Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada is a truly massive portrait of a girl that was crafted from sand, soil, grass, and stones on an 11-acre site in Belfast in Northern Ireland. The portrait was made over the course of one month by a team of volunteers and required an astonishing 2,000 tons of soil, 2,000 tons of sand, and 30,000 wooden stakes. It was unveiled as part of the Belfast Festival at Queen’s back in October. It will be on display until December 2013.
