A Portland man says he was fired for doing the right thing — jumping to action when he thought a child was in danger at his store. On the Friday night before Mother’s Day, Dillon Reagan was working at the Home Depot at Mall 205 when he heard a pounding on the door. “It ended up being one of our lot associates and he looked panicked and said ‘I need to know where the phone is, I need to call police,’” Reagan said. Then he raced out to the parking lot.

Muslim groups raise $500,000 for the victims of the Portland attacks
Islamic groups have raised nearly half-a-million dollars for the families of the men killed in Portland, Oregon while trying to defend Muslim women from a racist attack. Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and Ricky John Best were fatally stabbed and another man was seriously injured after they attempted to help two teenage girls who were being racially abused on a train last week. In the aftermath of the attack the Muslim Education Trust and CelebrateMercy, started a crowdfunding campaign for the victims in order to “respond to hate with love”.

President Donald Trump on Monday condemned the fatal stabbings of two Good Samaritans who tried to stop a man from harassing a pair of women who appeared to be Muslim, in a tweet issued days after an advocacy group urged Trump to condemn the attacks it said his anti-Muslim rhetoric had encouraged. A third man who also came to the aid of the women suffered serious wounds in the attack on a Portland commuter train on Friday, hours before the start of Ramadan, Islam's holy month. One of the women tearfully thanked the men for their sacrifice.

Man shouting 'anti-Muslim slurs' fatally stabs two men in US
Two men were fatally stabbed in the US city of Portland after they came to the aid of two women who were being harassed because they appeared to be Muslim, police said. The attacker had been shouting ethnic and religious slurs at the women on a commuter train at the Hollywood transit station, the Portland police department said in a statement. Three men who intervened were stabbed, two fatally. A suspect was arrested shortly after he got off the train. The women left the scene before police could interview them.

On Monday, as the pro-labor, anti-Trump rally in Oregon descended into violence, Portland police tweeted that demonstrators had started hurling objects including full Pepsi cans at officers.

Marijuana home delivery starts in Oregon
Oregon is rolling out another first in the recreational marijuana industry: Customers may now order pot from licensed retailers and have it delivered to their homes. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission had granted delivery permits to 117 retailers across Oregon, including 13 in Portland, last year but postponed their permission until last month. “We needed to make an adaptation to the cannabis tracking system to provide a document that would actually allow for the delivery of recreational marijuana to homes,” said OLCC spokesman Mark Pettinger.

Rent doubles in one day at NE Portland apartments
Families in Northeast Portland are facing a rent hike that could price them out of their homes. The Normandy Apartments on Northeast Killingsworth Street have been home to the Bautista family for more than a decade. They planned to live there for years to come, but now they may have to move. “It’s really hard on everyone in the community,” said Bautista. “You don’t just kick us out like that.” Bautista says not too long ago First Class Property Management notified her mom of a rent hike.

A Baby is Dead After Being Found With His Homeless Mother at a Portland Bus Stop
A Portland baby is dead after being found last week in freezing temperatures with his homeless mother in a bus stop along Southeast Powell Boulevard. The infant, found Jan. 9, marks the fifth death on Portland's streets during the cold weather this year. Four homeless people died of exposure in the first 10 days of 2017. A week after the baby was found, it's still unclear whether he died of exposure hours after being born outdoors or was stillborn.
