Parisians can use public transport for free for the second day running due to a spike in air pollution and some cars have been barred from the roads. The city is suffering its worst and most prolonged winter pollution for at least 10 years, the Airparif agency which measures the levels said on Wednesday.

105-Year-Old Cyclist Rides 14 Miles In An Hour En Route To A World Record
Frenchman Robert Marchand set a new world record Wednesday when he cycled 22.547 kilometers (about 14 miles) in an hour — at the age of 105. Wearing a purple and yellow cycling suit, pink helmet and yellow glasses, Marchand completed 92 laps at the Velodrome National, an indoor track near Paris that's used for elite cycling events. According to The Associated Press, he set a new record for the 105-plus age group and received a standing ovation from people in the crowd, who chanted "Robert, Robert" as he rolled to a stop.

Thieves stole wine reportedly worth more than €250,000 (£230,000) after burrowing into a private cellar from the catacombs 20 metres below Paris. Suspected bomb lab found near Paris, two arrested
Homemade explosives ready for use were found on Wednesday (Sept 6) in an unoccupied flat near Paris, judicial sources said. Gas canisters and electric wiring were also found in the flat in Villejuif, a suburb south of the French capital, and two men were arrested nearby, the sources said. The explosive, known by the initials of TATP, is notoriously used by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, which has repeatedly targeted France in recent years.

10-year-old girl beaten up for being Jewish
A schoolgirl was assaulted by bullies apparently because she was Jewish – in an attack that came after they had beaten and taunted her for several days over her faith, a report said. The 10-year-old – named only as Ness C – was taken to hospital for injuries to her ribs and stomach in the assault in Paris, and was kept for treatment for 10 days until she fully recovered. The mother later complained the school failed to protect her daughter or take action against the girl’s classmates who were behind the attack in the school in Paris's 18th arrondissement.
