Waffle House shooting hero raises over $185K for victims
James Shaw Jr., the hero of the April 22 Waffle House shooting, has launched a campaign on a crowdfunding site to raise money for the victims of the deadly attack in a Nashville suburb. Shaw initially wanted to raised $15,000. The site had collected over $188,000 as of early Sunday morning. "Please take the time to donate as all of the proceeds will be given to the families. Thank you again for your generosity and blessings!" according to a message from Shaw on the site, which ABC News has confirmed is authentic.

AT&T and Comcast lawsuit has nullified a city’s broadband competition law
AT&T and Comcast have convinced a federal judge to nullify an ordinance that was designed to bring more broadband competition to Nashville, Tennessee. The Nashville Metro Council last year passed a "One Touch Make Ready" rule that gives Google Fiber or other new ISPs faster access to utility poles. The ordinance lets a single company make all of the necessary wire adjustments on utility poles itself, instead of having to wait for incumbent providers like AT&T and Comcast to send work crews to move their own wires.

Nashville becomes 1st city in Tennessee to decriminalize small amounts of pot
The city of Nashville became the first in the state of Tennessee to lessen the penalty for small amounts of marijuana Tuesday night. In a 35-3 vote, the Metro Council approved the bill that allows officers to give someone a $50 fine and community service if they are found with less than a half ounce of marijuana. This changes the current laws where people charged with marijuana possession face a misdemeanor with up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Google Fiber stalls in Nashville in fight over utility poles
Google Fiber started examining Nashville, Tennessee, for a possible deployment more than two and a half years ago, it confirmed plans to build in January 2015, and it started serving a few apartment and condominium buildings in the city in April of this year. But further progress is being slowed in part by difficulties obtaining access to utility poles, and legislation designed to solve the problem is being resisted by incumbents AT&T and Comcast.
