Deputies said after killing her two children and before taking her own life, 36-year-old Jessica Edens placed a final phone call to her estranged husband. Edens was found deceased with 5-year-old daughter Harper Edens and 9-year-old son Hayden King in a Jeep at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway on July 13. The coroner said all three suffered gunshot wounds. On Monday, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office said they were closing their investigation, officially ruling the woman and children's deaths a murder-suicide.

Detectives are today questioning two men in connection with suspected honour killing and the attempted murder of the victim’s cousin. A judge has ordered an Indiana woman who confessed to fatally smothering her two children to undergo mental health treatment before she goes to prison. An Elkhart County judge ordered a 130-year sentence Thursday for 30-year-old Amber Pasztor of Fort Wayne. Pasztor admits to killing 7-year-old Lilliana Hernandez and 6-year-old Rene Pasztor. She pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two murder counts.

A court on Thursday convicted five men of murdering Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, but the late politician's allies said the investigation had been a cover-up and that the people who had ordered his killing remained at large. Nemtsov, one of President Vladimir Putin's most vocal critics, was murdered in 2015 as he walked across a bridge near the Kremlin after dining with his girlfriend. Aged 55, he had been working on a report examining Russia's role in Ukraine. His killing sent a chill through opposition circles.

Mexico registered more than 2,000 murders in May, a record high for any month since 1997, underlining the country's struggles to deal with the trade in narcotics. There were 2,186 murder investigations in May, according to the latest government statistics released on Wednesday, surpassing the previous monthly high of 2,131 in May 2011. Some cases may include multiple homicides, and the number of murder victims reported in May was 2,452, the highest for any month in a separate series of data that only goes back to 2014.

Authorities in Florida are investigating the death of a Miami federal prosecutor and father of three after his body was found on a beach in Hollywood, Florida, on Wednesday. The body was identified by local police as Beranton Whisenant Jr., 37, and his cause of death is currently being investigated as a crime. Police say he suffered a head wound. Whisenant worked in the major crimes unit of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami.

The FBI is looking into whether the fatal stabbing of a black student by a white student at the University of Maryland was a hate crime. Sean Christopher Urbanski, 22, was arrested on murder charges in the death of Richard Collins III in the early hours of Saturday, according to police. Mr Collins, 23, was visiting friends at the College Park campus when he was stabbed in the chest with a knife.

A fired Balch Springs police officer has been released on bond after he surrendered to authorities Friday to face a murder warrant in the shooting of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards. Roy Oliver posted a $300,000 bond after he was booked at the Parker County Jail in Weatherford, about 95 miles west of Dallas.

German authorities have launched an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Egyptian student in the German city of Cottbus. New witnesses claim the student was racially abused by the passengers of a car that struck her and left her fatally injured in the German city of Cottbus. According to German media, Shaden Mohamed Al-Gohari was struck by a car in a hit-and-run as she crossed the road in the German city on 18 April. Shaden was transported to hospital but later passed away due to the serious injuries she sustained from the hit-and-run.
