Another reddit refugee. Is this the right place for me?

Hi, I'm new here. Well, sorta new. I've been lurking around for a few weeks here. Been trying to find an alternative to reddit for a little while now.

Honestly, I've hated reddit for a long time, but I haven't been sure anything is better. I first went to reddit because it was sold as this place where discussion and ideas were exchanged more freely and maturely. I liked that because when I was young I liked browsing internet forums trying to find people who shared the same interests as me, only to find that every forum on the internet is a toxic mess. I quickly realized Reddit wasn't all that great either, but it was still an improvement so I've stuck around ever since. It has since degraded into a place where I find all the things that satisfy my dark sense of humor.

Now it's more of a mess than ever. It's a mixture of people being overly-PC with people being overly obnoxious assholes who claim to be fighting those PC people. The middle ground is gone and I find myself constantly rolling my eyes wherever I go. But hey, still some funny pictures, right?

I've been checking out voat as well, but I lurk through the comments and it seems like a lot of the obnoxiousness of reddit has spilled over there. Not to mention a majority of it is just an anti-reddit circle jerk. So is this the right kind of place for me? How would you describe it?

That was pretty much my impression of voat a almost exact reddit clone What made it worse was that it seemed like a lot of the early jumpers seemed to be exactly the people that ruined reddit.

A lot of redditors are quickly blaming all the issues with reddit on SJWs. I certainly think those type of people have been on reddit more and more and certainly are causing problems, but the issues with reddit go way farther back. That's what worries me about voat. I'm afraid it's just the same obnoxious people that were there beforehand.
