I hate you-don't leave me...why we should worry that the redditors will go back to their ex.

In the throes of a massive migration SNAPZU got active, stayed (mostly) civil and has retained it's unique feel. As Reddit tries to right it's ship and everyone craves situation normal-will the masses go crawling back to their ex at the promise of a new start, a clean slate and the age old "it will never happen again". Where will that leave SNAPZU? Wondering what the future holds for this unique SNAPZU community and will we be better off after the storm has passed.

Some will, but most won't. There is no rule that you have to use one or the other. Both platforms have their unique atmospheres.

Very true, I think the influx has given SNAPZU a bit of pace and variety. I am so hoping it doesn't end up with a ghost town feel with abandoned tribes and little updates in discussion. I love the discussion and the pace is just right- I am not waiting for hours for signs of life but can still make it to the bar without missing the conversation completely!

I hope it keeps on going like this. I've been posting a whole lot more here than I did on Reddit, I think I posted like once before aside from comments on Reddit. Hopefully people see the posts and comment or make a contribution by posting their own stuff. I figured there might be a lot of lurkers that came here from Reddit and I don't want them to leave for lack of content.

I can tell you I'm here to stay, and the only reason I'm still using reddit is to remain active on /r/SandersForPresident. After the campaign, this is my home.

Sure, we'll lose some people, but Snapzu doesn't necessarily need to get huge fast. I'd love to start recognizing fellow users on here and get a tight community going before the site blows up completely.

So what's made you commit to this relationship:-)

It's entirely a gut feeling. This site has some kinks to work out, but something just feels right here. I don't count as an early adopter, since I only heard about it yesterday, but it's still small enough that I feel like I can be part of growing it into something larger.

Yeah it's fascinating how SNAPZU has pulled this off. Hats off to the admins-social media is a hard beast to tame.

I fell in love with Snapzu when I "jumped ship" in the wake of the Drama. I can of course only speak for myself but I'm here to stay. And further along there is no reason Snapzu and other social media forums cannot coexist. So sure there will be some that will go back now but then again, even if Reddit collapsed then and there it's probably safe to say that not everyone would have stayed once they realize that this is not Reddit and I frankly hope it does not become Reddit 2:Electric Boogaloo. IMHO people who are convinced by soothing words to turn around and go back would not have stayed here anyway. They want Reddit, warts and all. And Snapzu is not Reddit, I mean you have to have a good reason to downvote? AND MY HATERED AT OP IS NOT A VALID REASON?! (Just an example, I don't hate you!)

I don't think Snapzu has to worry about people leaving, what should be a worry is not becoming Reddit through the massive influx of it's users.

Why is it that if I click downvote I don't get asked a reason? I've actually never had a reason to downvote anyone other than to test this function (and yes, I immediately undo my downvote).

Well said. Hopefully the community is embracing the culture and willing to protect it. It think the pace and the look are helping people to slow down a bit, take stock and thoughtfully post. I too am sold.

why we should worry that the redditors will go back to their ex

This is such an unhealthy way to think about this whole thing. "The redditors" are just people who use or used Reddit. "Thier ex" is Reddit, it's really not like a break-up, and there's nothing to worry about.

Like hxxp said, some will leave. Some won't. What happened on Reddit was a typical knee-jerk reaction. It happened multiple times before, and I bet after the first few days things toned down significantly.
I sometimes feel a bit hypocritical talking about it, because I found Snapzu amidst the drama, but I didn't "leave Reddit." I simply found a post talking about Snapzu, not even one that was advertising it, and liked this website. I still use Reddit. I also use Snapzu. It's not a big deal! Both have their interesting and positive quirks. :)

Browsing websites is not a strict monogamous relationship. You don't have to commit your soul to for one and destroy your history with the others. You can use Reddit, Snapzu, Slashdot, Digg, whatever, all in symphony.

As long as Snapzu remain a bright, positive and beautiful community and website, it will continue to grow regardless of Reddit's outbursts of anger.

I agree, I'm in the same boat. Thing is, Snapzu isn't populated enough yet for little niche tribes to exist, and be moderately active. I visit quite a lot of them on reddit. However, the major tribes here already have enough content for me while reddit (for me) oftentimes too much. Given how Snapzu feels better and has a pretty chill community, I'm here to stay.
If enough redditors explore Snapzu and feel the same way, maybe the niche tribes could become active, which could be a mayor motive for them to stay.

Just like relationships- you can have multiple of various intensity and commitment I agree. I use the relationship analogy because some people were genuinely hurt and it was the relationships they have with the people of reddit-not the site-that was the source of the hurt. It occurred to me that some of the mods were so incensed that they actually stopped doing what they do-and what they do as volunteers is obviously a passion. To react so strongly, so publicly and so pervasively was an indicator of the strength of the emotion involved. I disagree there is nothing to worry about- the comments on SNAPZU tell me plenty was wrong. It's inevitable that reddit will try to calm and return to business as usual as soon as possible-what business doesn't want its corporate storms to pass quickly? In my mind that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong. I'm loving that SNAPZU is benefitting from increased membership and participation.

I've had this Snapzu account for a year. I first heard about it on Reddit, and when I started using it in 2014 it seemed like a ghost town so I went back. I can honestly say that there's enough content flowing in here now to keep me onboard, and as an active and contributing member at that.

It's awesome that the pace has picked up, I am so hoping that in a months time I am not deafened by silence.

You and me both. It helps to find and follow users whose posts you tend to like, that way even if they participate in tribes that you aren't subscribed to, you'll still have content. But I see you've already done that, so carry on!

Fantastic tip -thanks. I am not following many yet-really just those I inherited when I joined and some that have regularly commented wherever I am. I like the discussions so look for users who like to comment.

I really like Snapzu and plan on sticking around. Everyone here has been very nice and helpful. But I'll still go to Reddit for certain subreddits until the related tribes on here get bigger.

I speak only for myself, but I'm not going anywhere.

When I chose to come to Snapzu, I wasn't looking for a "reddit substitute," I was looking for a new community, something fresh and exciting again. It's the differences that appeal to me, not the similarities. And now that I've spent some time here, whenever I set foot on reddit again, I'm shocked at the lack of content... Both in terms of link quality, but in the comments.

The more time I spend here, the less I want to go back. I'm keeping reddit for a few smaller communities, but I'm unsubscribing from all the main subreddits. This, here, is where I'll come to talk about current events and general cool stuff. And the more time I spend here, the less I ever wanna leave.

A lot of people are going to go back to Reddit, and I can't blame them for it. Old habits die hard. But I think the better way to look at this is that as long as we retain some good people then we've still come out ahead. And really, it doesn't have to be one site or the other.

I'm not leaving. Had I known this site existed I would have left Reddit literally years ago. I love this place so much. I feel like I belong here. I know I can't speak for the thousands that migrated but I think of this place as a home and a social hub for me. I'm not a very social person irl and this provides me with an outlet and avenue to reach out and connect with people I other wise could not/would not enjoy conversation or a laugh with. I'm eternally grateful for the experiences Snapzu has provided and I'm sure will provide me with in the future.

Awesome reasons to stay. I like the conversation too. Just didn't feel comfortable with reddit-users were savage sometimes. And I just got bored with it.

I got tired of being bullied, honestly. It felt like high school again. I got bullied enough in f%*king high school to last me a life time. I don't need that anymore.

Interestingly, I've gone from something like 6 hours a day on reddit to 2 hours a day here and maybe 30 minutes to an hour there. I definitely prefer it here, but my mane community is still small and growing, so I have to see what's going on at large elsewhere.

Personally, my biggest concern is that I won't be able to find enough content on Snapzu to justify continually visiting the site. In other words, if I still have to visit Reddit for the main reason I visit these sites (content aggregation), then it makes it hard to keep coming back here.

snapzu seems to encourage users to be active with contributions so hopefully as it grows so does the content.

I never really stopped using reddit, honestly, I just use it for different things. I now use Snapzu to have discussions and post content because it feels more rewarding than on reddit, while on reddit I mostly browse the earthporn and other ____porn sections for pretty pictures and otherwise just lurk. I imagine it being similar for some, taking all the content posts over to snapzu while remaining a lurker on reddit.

Interested to know what will make you stay with SNAPZU. What encourages your presence here?

      • ToixStory

Like I said, it feels much more rewarding to have discussions here and post content. On reddit I felt like I had to self-moderate my own posts to keep with the popular opinions on reedit or else be downvoted to oblivion, whereas on Snapzu it feels much more welcoming to actual open and civil discussion and content posting. Definitely to the point of making me prefer to go here the majority of the time.

I'll just visit both for a while to see how the communities evolve. If either get's too boring, hostile or restrictive I'll stop visiting. Could as well be that I'll leave both behind and go looking for yet another alternative.
