A Belated Introduction

Now that I'm feeling more comfortable on this delightful site, and now that I see introduction posts are sincerely welcomed, here goes!

I'm a New Orleans native who recently moved home after a seven-year-exile in the actual Bible-Belt. I've got an MA in English and BAs in English and Spanish. I've worked as a legal assistant, a crime/safety reporter (won some minor awards!), and now I work in communications/PR. I hated that everyone viewed me as "The Enemy" when I worked as a reporter -- and the expectation to exploit people's mistakes -- so I figured I'd enjoy putting out fires more than starting them!

I adore language and examining how it's used by people. I write dark fantasy novels in my spare time, and if you forced me to choose between a horror movie and a musical, I'd probably end up demanding that you sing while you murder me.

Snapzu has energized me over the past few days, and I hope to continue participating in this valuable community!

Awesome introduction! I think its going to be awesome if you maybe wrote some dark fantasy for us!

Thank you! I'm actually hoping to self-publish a novel sometime (soon? soon, I hope?), so if I can get my ducks in a row...

      Well, we'll see what happens!

(This is the part where I second-guess myself into a crazed, agitated frenzy and decide for five minutes that writing isn't even worth it, before locking that anxiety down and moving right along with the project. :P)

New Orleans isn't part of the actual Bible-Belt? Is it in one of the belt loops that crosses Louisiana?

If no one has claimed it already, you should definitely start up /t/writing.

/t/writing has definitely been claimed, but I plan to participate actively! I'm also pretty excited about /t/guerrillawriters.

As far as I'm concerned, New Orleans is out of sorts with all its surroundings. Religion's influence is strong here, but it's rarely accompanied by the hatred and intolerance I saw in other parts of the South. I've been told NOLA is to Louisiana as Austin is to Texas. NOLA people (on average) are taught to embrace the bizarre rather than reject it.
