As I understand it's only to simplify things for new users, instead of having to look for good submitters, and as others stated you are free to unfollow anyone you please. Regarding leaving tribes, currently it can only be done from the listings page. I believe there has already been a few posts in /t/ideasforsnapzu to add in a button on the tribe page. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions :)
