I personally have found the things posted to be generally more thoughtful than bigger forums tend to be as well.
Funnily enough, that's what drew me to Reddit in the first place. The comments were more thoughtful and there were really good discussions (even on the default subs) when compared to Digg back in the day. The quality comments still exist, but sometimes get overshadowed by the witty one liners, puns and memes. I guess that's just the nature of online forums, the bigger they get the more noise there is.
