What is short blue and rhymes with glurf?
After a long 11 hour drive yesterday we have finally arived at our destination! Now don't get all jelly but I am up in Rippon WI at the home of the Guinness World Records holder for the largest Smurf collection! Why yes I do have unique friends and a good 1/8 of them don't have a smurfy police record! So I know you are all thinking "That smurfing son of a smurf, how does he get so lucky?" Well I will share some pictures as soon as I remember my imgur password and if you have any questions for her you have 72 hours to ask them and I will get your smurfing answer!

So I made it back home :( kind of a frown there because I had a great time hanging out with Gerda, Her family, and her smurf collection. They even put up with my bitch of a dog (she is a pirate puppy so....) . She was very happy that everyone had questions for her and it was my fault that the timing of the answers were delayed. I have sent her information on Snapzu and an access code so she just might pop up to give us more info on Smurfs! Thanks again Gerda you wonderful Smurfy friend!
P.S. I did score a Smurf Pirate set and I will have more pictures of them in their new home! I still have to unpack them though.

On behalf of Snapzu I would like to thank you for not mentioning you had Smurf records. Snapzu has dodge an invisible bullet which is my love of drink and music. You can only imagine the mayhem I would have unleashed once I found out about them.
How did his love for Smurfs start? How did you two meet and become friends?
And what did he think of Snorks? I recall watching this one as a kid and it made me wonder now if there were more Smurf clones later.
So how did your love of smurfs start? It started in germany when she was a child. Smurfs were a big deal there well before they came to the states. Her brother was using a smurf as a chew toy and she didn' t like it so she grabbed it and hid it in her room. After that she had to save every smurf she found. Now it is a hobby but she really enjoys cataloging them. She was in highschool with my wife. I inherited her family theough mariage. The snorks was America'sattempt to cash in on the smurf craze. "They are the smurf cousins that nobody talks about"
What other cartoons were being aired those days on German TV? Why does she think it became so popular? How do people react when they see her collection?
Here is a fun fact. The record for the most smurfs has to be for an individual item. There can not be any doubles and if the smurfs come in a boxes set it is considered one item. The first picture in the gallery, which is worth over $1000.00, is a Smurf Moon Landing set and even though there aee many pieces that needed to be collected it only counts as 1 in the the record book.
Also she has an extra set of pirate smurfs so I am in negotiations.

Yes I would, unless it happend to be a one that I had at least three more of then I might let you use it.
And that is why I did not attempt it. There is a thin line between life and death and in this case it was a smurf glass :D

Why does she think smurfs became so popular? For the US it was a gad. In Europe they are like Americas Mickey mouse everyone seems to like them.
How do people react when they see her collection? Most of them say Im nuts but there are all sorts of clubs for collecting toys. Has your fame changed you? you are in the presence of greatness. But seriously I sent my application in not really thinking I had a record amount of smurfs. But they sent back a reply and I was just shaking when I saw it.
What would be your advice to children who want a carreer in collecting things? Go for it. Stay young. Nothing says you have to grow up!

Money or opportunity? There are some single pvc characters that are prototypes and run about $6000.00 but they usually do not go up for sale.

They were cute and lived up to the smurf storyline. The best part was at the end of the movie they put out a big credit to Jonathan Winters who was grandpa smurf in the cartoons.
