Welcome! I would definitely recommend just playing around with the website. The format is different from reddit, but I've found it much more tasteful to navigate after getting used to it. Also, they do downvoting a lot differently here - it should really only be used as a report button for spam/trolling type posts.
Other than that, contribute comments and enjoy the community. They really are quite friendly here
Mess around alot! I usually set mine to trending in the normal and than set it to new in the afternoon. Of course I work in a office so its convenient for me. Check out the XP system, join as many tribes as you can! Its very family and small community like here but everyone seems to get along.
