Watch a new trailer for Na Hong-jin’s The Wailing
In this tense supernatural thriller, a foreigner’s mysterious appearance in a quiet, rural village causes suspicion among the locals – suspicion which quickly turns to hysteria as the townspeople begin killing each other in brutal outbursts for seemingly no reason. As the investigating officer watches his daughter fall under the same savage spell, he agrees to consult a shaman for answers – unknowingly escalating the situation into something far more dangerous. Directed by Na Hong-jin, the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Kwak Do-won, Jun Kunimura, Han Gong-ju, and Chun Woo-hee. This looks fantastic

After the Ending - Inception & Three Amigos
After the Ending is a podcast I do. We look at what happened to the characters in your favorite movies after they end. If this was the real world, what would happen to that girl who survived the summer camp slasher massacre? Who’s going to believe the guy who traveled through time? Were the members of The Breakfast Club still friends on Monday morning? These are the questions we’re going to answer! In this episode, we give “after the endings” to Inception (2010) and The Three Amigos (1986). We also have an exclusive interview with Graham McTavish (The Finest Hours, Outlander, Creed, The Hobbit)

Hearing Sicario
Sicario is the third supercut in my "Best Sound Editing Oscar Nominees 2016" series, focusing on sounds that are all too familiar in today's world. These are sounds we hear today whether it's a car door slamming shut, people fighting with their fists or guns, or a shower suddenly turning on. The film takes these sounds and applies them to actions that are dramatic, suspenseful, and terrifying in order to add a layer of realism that engages the audience and pulls them closer to a world that is a reflection of our own.

THE PERSISTENCE OF VISION
"A pioneer in psychoanalytic and feminist approaches to cinema studies and author of two important books in our field (REPRESENTING THE WOMAN: PSYCHOANALYSIS AND CINEMA, 1997, and RECORDING REALITY, DESIRING THE REAL, 2011), Professor Elizabeth Cowie recently retired from the post she had held in Film Studies at the University of Kent since 1982. I was very fortunate to work alongside her in that department between 1998 and 2008"

Blade Runner has been recreated by an artificial neural network
This is Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner made by a frame by frame reconstruction of the film using a type of artificial neural network called an autoencoder. It was the work of Terence Broad. He is a researcher living in London and working on a master’s degree in creative computing. Broad’s goal was to apply “deep learning” — a fundamental piece of artificial intelligence that uses algorithmic machine learning — to video; he wanted to discover what kinds of creations a rudimentary form of AI might be able to generate when it was “taught” to understand real video data.
