Officials said threat levels are being “kept under constant and active review”. Up to 20 ISIS fighters may be looking to return to Ireland since the terror’s group’s collapse in Syria and Iraq, the Department of Justice has said. Officials estimate about 25 people travelled from Ireland to fight with the group since 2011 but five were killed in action.

According to a top Irish official, Apple has agreed to to pay Ireland around $15.4 billion in back taxes. “We have now reached agreement with Apple in relation to the principles and operation of the escrow fund,” Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe told reporters before a meeting with European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, per Reuters.

Ophelia Claims First Casualty in Ireland as Storm Slams Coast
Storm Ophelia claimed its first victim in Ireland, as a woman died amid some of the worst weather conditions to hit the country in 50 years. A woman in her 70s was killed after a tree fell on her car in Waterford in the south-east of the country, state broadcaster RTE said. A man in his 30s died while clearing a fallen tree in Tipperary, while a second man died in Louth, north-east of Dublin, according to the broadcaster.

One of Ireland’s most successful canine athletes has been banned from dog racing indefinitely after three doping control tests found evidence of cocaine in his system, the BBC reported Thursday. Ireland is to ban onshore fracking, making it one of a few countries to prohibit the gas extraction method in an effort to preserve the environment. The Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill 2016 will be signed into law by President Michael D. Higgins, after it passed in the Seanad (Senate) on Wednesday, following its passing in the Dail (Parliament) in May.
