Inside the building where Apple tortures the iPhone 6
A few blocks away from Apple's bustling campus in Cupertino is a rather nondescript building. Inside is absolutely the last place on earth you'd want to be if you were an iPhone. It's here where Apple subjects its newest models to the kinds of things they might run into in the real world: drops, pressure, twisting, tapping. Basically all the things that could turn your shiny gadget into a small pile of metal and glass.

The Big Money, High-Stakes iPhone Case Race
Apple's newest phones sold 10 million units last weekend—strange reports of bending aside, they're breaking records left and right. In 2013, the 5c and 5s sold nine million units in their opening weekend, while the 4s sold a paltry four million the year before. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus outdid that in pre-sales alone.

Idiots are destroying iPhones at Apple Stores to prove they can bend
For some people, apparently it's not enough to see Apple's iPhone 6 Plus abused on YouTube. They've got to experience mustering every last bit of their strength to bend Apple's 5.5-inch phablet firsthand. But unlike Unbox Therapy and Consumer Reports, who at least paid for the phones they broke or mutilated during stress tests, these people are going out and destroying Apple's property.

This bent iPhone 6 poster is perfect
Billboards can be big and unwieldy things. Sometimes big things need to bend a little to fit into the limited space of our puny little planet. And sometimes the thing that's being advertised is so perfectly in sync with the billboard's shape as to require no further explanation.

Apple's Sapphire Screen Maker, GT Technologies, Files for Bankruptcy
GT Technologies, the company tapped to make the sapphire screens on the upcoming Apple Watch, has filed for bankruptcy. In addition to the Apple Watch screens, Apple uses GT's sapphire for its camera covers and Touch ID sensors. GT does not plan to go out of business and plans to continue operating as normal, so this might not impact the production of the Apple Watch at all.

China is staging a nationwide attack on iCloud and Microsoft accounts
China got its first official shipments of new iPhones last week, but a new report from web censorship watchdog Great Fire indicates Chinese users may be facing an unpleasant surprise when they try to connect to Apple services at large. As of last night, the Chinese firewall is blocking all local connections to iCloud.com, redirecting those connections to a dummy site designed to look exactly like Apple's login page.

An ode to Apple's fading iPod: It begat the iPhone

This Is What The Apple Watch Interface Looks Like On An iPhone
Ever since Apple announced the Apple Watch, it’s been easy to let the imagination wander a bit. It’s the first product out of Apple in a long time, perhaps since the iPhone, that feels truly exciting and new. Much of that is thanks to the user interface, which has a very distinct look from the UIs of the iPhone, iPad or even Macs.

AT&T’s outdated unlock policies cost it a loyal customer: me
Watching Steve Jobs unveil the original iPhone in 2007, I knew that I had to have one. Seriously, if you’ve never watched Jobs’ Macworld keynote where he took the covers off the iPhone, it’s worth at least viewing the highlights. It’s a masterwork presentation and Jobs is in absolute top form, playing the audience like a piano (in spite of how shaky things were behind the scenes). When it launched in June 2007, the only way to get an iPhone was to sign up for service with AT&T.

Apple finally makes it easy to disable iMessage
If you've ever abandoned your iPhone, either permanently or temporarily, you may well have lost friends in the process. The benefits of iMessage - Apple's over-the-top messaging app - have been evident since the day the feature was introduced. But if, like me, you have ever attempted to use a device other than an iPhone for any length of time, you may have noticed people you used to be in regular contact with seem to have mysteriously slipped off your radar.

Why I Left My iPhone 6 For an iPhone 5S
A week after the iPhone 6 launch, I found myself drunk, eligible for a contract phone upgrade, and holding my finger perilously close to the checkout. $200 for Apple's latest seemed like a no-brainer. Two months of less-than-blissful life with the 6 later, and I'm switching back.
