‘Children in cages’: Human rights group accuses Israel of torture
An Israeli human rights organization has accused the country of torturing Palestinian minors, with reported cases of public caging as well as threats and acts of sexual violence. The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI) condemned Israel’s failure to protect Palestinian minors from the alleged torture. The group demanded authorities introduce specific provisions for the protection of all children against torture in Israeli domestic law.

On the anniversary US human rights activists marched to the White House demanding the facility’s closure. Pay for jail? Dutch govt wants to charge prisoners €16 a day
Convicted criminals in Netherlands might start paying 16 euro ($22) per day for accommodation as the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice wants to introduce a bill aimed at reducing state jail costs. “Convicted criminals have broken the law and received a penalty. Offenders are being asked to make a contribution… because of high costs,” the ministry said in a statement Monday.

South Korean activists have launched an anti-North Korea balloon campaign, sending packages containing leaflets, USB drives and money across the border, despite the North's government threatening to target the "human scum" involved. Egypt votes overwhelmingly for new constitution
Egyptians who voted in a referendum overwhelmingly approved a new constitution, official sources said, citing early results of a ballot that could set the stage for army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to declare his candidacy for president. Vatican accused of lack of transparency over 384 priests defrocked for assaulting children
After a brief denial, the Vatican has confirmed that, in his final two years as pope, Benedict XVI defrocked almost 400 priests for assaulting children. But critics are claiming that the circumstances of the revelations made on Friday could be “damage control”. They point out that the admission came less than 24 hours after church leaders faced a grilling by the UN in Geneva about a perceived lack of transparency over existing procedures to protect children from sexual abuse by priests.
