Dubai welcomes 2014 with fireworks display, breaks Guinness world record
Dubai has ushered in 2014 with more than half a million fireworks spectacle, breaking the world record for the largest such display ever, Guinness World records said today. Ten months in planning, over 500,000 fireworks were used during the display on the New Year's Eve which lasted around six minutes, with Guinness adjudicators on hand to confirm that a new record had been set.

Australian Couple Covers House in 500,000 Christmas Lights for Charity & World Record
David and Janean Richards, a couple living in Canberra, Australia, have decked their house in an astonishing 502,165 lights to raise money for charity and capture the world record for the most lights on a residential property. The display includes 164,000 feet of lights that are synchronized to music by 520 Light-O-Rama channels. The display will be on view through December 26,Throughout the event, the Richards will be raising money for the children’s charity Sids and Kids.

New Yorkers in and around Herald Square watched a crowd gather for an attempt to set the world record for Most People Twerking Simultaneously. Cruz needed to talk for two more hours to break the filibuster record set, in 1957, by Strom Thurmond; the Herald Square twerkers needed two hundred and fifty people, engaged in two minutes of continuous twerking, to make it into the Guinness Book of Records.

World's Fastest Back Bend Walk - Guinness World Records 2014
London-based contortionist Leilani “Lucky” Franco holds the Guinness world record for the World’s Fastest Human Backbend Walk, moving nearly 66 feet in 10.05 seconds. She says, “Whenever I’m at a party, my friends are always like, ‘Leilani, show people what you can do!’ and I say ok and I do something really weird and everybody gets really shocked. I really like that.”
