What to expect with GISHWHES?

Last year was the first year I joined in the GISHWHES Extravaganza. My wife has wanted to do it for many years but we never seemed to have the time to devote to it. Lets face it, in today's run run world it is not easy to find 7 to 10 days to complete 173 random acts and then edit/post them so they can be judged by the world. But last year we decided to try our best, as a family and team, to accomplish as much as we can. We tried to create our own team of 15 of our friends but came up short so we were thrown in with other teams who also came up short. This wasn't to bad though because we met some new people from around different countries and we all had a different area to work in. When they say GISHWHES is international they mean international. In a way I think having a wide variety of different people on the team helped. The communication was weird at times because we were on different time zones but with a bit of patience it all worked out. Now for the random acts of craziness, well, the can be crazy and push you out of your comfort zone at times. I do not see myself as a introvert or extrovert, I am what I am and do what needs to be done at any time. I think there is to much talk about the Alpha and Beta being and the whole "you need to be this" rhetoric that the world wants to ram down our throats. Why the heck can people be what ever they want. Heck I am a Pirate for goodness sake, who am I to judge? So my best advice to anyone who joins a team is "Don't worry about what you feel you can or can't do!" just have fun with it. Use the list of acts to maybe break out a bit and see just what you can accomplish. There is no fail or pass in GISHWHES even though there is a prize to be won. Take it to the extreme or take it easy, take it any way you want. Just make sure that your teammates understand you and what you want to accomplish for GISHWHES and yourself. There are some teams that take things a bit more seriously than others. If you find yourself on the wrong team just move to a different one before the start. All in all I enjoyed GISHWHES 2016. It was hectic and crazy but well worth it.

I will see if I can post the GISHWHES 2016 random acts here so you can get a feel for what they are like before you commit.
