Do Kairosoft games actually have much in the way of differences? I enjoyed playing Game Dev Story, but after playing Dungeon Village, it felt like the same basic mechanics with a different coat of paint. Do their other games have noticeable differences in gameplay?

Not really, tbh. They all sort of blend together after awhile. It's always about room combinations or something like that. Different items or buildings that affect mood, etc. What kept me hooked was the different settings. I enjoyed Hot Springs Story because I thought it would be cool to manage a spa. Game Dev Story because managing a video game company seemed cool. Pocket Academy for the same reasons.

There are some different mechanics, or more so, different features. Like the football one where you manage a football team and get to see them play. Or the racing one where you build your racing team and watch them beat others on the track. I'd consider just going through their catalogue and seeing which ones appeal to you.

EDIT: Plus they're just so cute and fun sometimes! It's hard to put down :)
