Gearbox confirmed Borderlands 3's existence at its PAX East panel today, as well as calling 2019 "The Year of Borderlands." We managed to learn quite a bit from the Mask of Mayhem teaser, but the trailer accompanying the announcement—take a look above—is considerably meatier and chock-full of action and character reveals.

The first gameplay trailer for Borderlands 3 is pretty dense. It's a whirlwind tour of the game's new and returning characters, new planets and a tiny slice of the billion guns that can potentially be conjured up. Gearbox says it will reveal more details on April 3, but in the meantime there's a lot that we can glean from the trailer. If you haven't watched it yet, or maybe you just want a refresher, take a look at the trailer above. With that done, let's pick it apart.

Gearbox has released a teaser trailer for a new Borderlands game today, which it is noticeably not calling Borderlands 3, even though we can probably speculate that's what it is. It doesn't give much away, though, does it? There's a lot of familiar faces, however, trapped in the titular Mask of Mayhem. Dubstep aside, it's a bit like the Black Sails intro. Now, I'm not saying Borderlands 3, or whatever this is, will be full of pirates and nautical adventures, but I certainly wouldn't complain.
