A Military Officer Reveals the History Behind Game of Thrones Battle Tactics
Game of Thrones has taken from legal history (Tyrion’s trial by combat) and medical history (Ser Robert Strong is the reanimated corpse of Ser Gregor Clegane). In episode "Battle of the Bastards"—the fight between the armies of the Starks and the Boltons—we got to see writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff showing off their military history. Specifically: the part where the Boltons completely surrounded the Starks with their shields. In the series, we’ve seen shields (and armor and weapons) aplenty. But it wasn’t until the episode "Battle of the Bastards" that we saw a scutum, a long, heavy shield used by the Romans. The Boltons...

Here's the physics behind Bran's time travelling in Game of Thrones (spoilers... or are they?)
Bran Stark's time travelling in Game of Thrones has thrown up major questions about his role in the series. Up until the episode 'The Door', he appeared merely as an observer during his visions with the Three-Eyed Raven (he tried to call to a young Ned Stark, but was not seen/heard). However, in the latest episode, he appears to directly influence events in the past – causing confusion about the concept of time travel and what it means for the programme.

Game of Thrones Recap: Learning the Beginnings of the End
It's a week for origin stories—Hodor, White Walkers, the Faceless Men—though their motivations end up feeling more opaque than ever. Game of Thrones has always been a story about stories, and specifically about taking fantasy tales apart and putting them back together in cruel and fascinating ways. It’s interesting now, particularly in the political storylines, to see the characters themselves considering their own stories more carefully: the ones that other people tell about them, the ones they tell about themselves, and how they can change the former to the latter.

Someone is leaking the plot of every new ‘Game of Thrones’ episode — and HBO is trying its best to stop it
The internet is darker and more full of spoilers than ever these days — and "Game of Thrones" is no exception. But the problem that has arisen in the last several weeks has nothing to do with spoiler-filled discussions of the episodes after they air. A man known as the "Spanish Spoiler" is uploading videos to YouTube in which he details the entire plot of the upcoming week's episode. But he's doing it two full days before HBO airs the show.

Ramsay Bolton of ‘Game of Thrones’ Is the Most Hated Man on TV
Like many successful actors, Iwan Rheon, better known as the blithely malicious Ramsay Bolton on “Game of Thrones,” arguably the most hated man on television, admits he’s concerned about being narrowly defined by an indelible character. But ask a logical follow-up question — what else are you working on? — and the scale of his challenge becomes clear. “I’m playing a young Hitler,” he replied, referring to the British television movie “Adolf the Artist.”

Game of Thrones Creators on Show's Disastrous Original Pilot
It’s no secret that Game of Thrones is arguably the biggest show on television. Yes The Walking Dead gets bigger numbers, but in terms of buzz, passion, and yes, controversy, Game of Thrones dominates the zeitgeist with each new season. However, you may not know that HBO’s mega-hit almost burst into flames before it even got off the ground. When creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss got the go-ahead to make a pilot for an adaptation of...
