I can recognize a bad argument when I see it
Shall I give you an example? Here’s one I’ve actually heard from atheists: “Christians don’t really believe in God, because the god idea is stupid. They only go to church because they’re afraid of death/need social reassurance/were brainwashed.” Another permutation of that is that since the god idea is stupid, the only people who believe in a god are the really stupid people.

Why Don't Scientists Fear Hell?
"It is proof of a base and low mind for one to wish to think with the masses or majority, merely because the majority is the majority. Truth does not change because it is, or is not, believed by a majority of the people."

How Could God Have Screwed Up Morality?
This idea of mistake-proofing has been around for 60 years within Japanese manufacturing, where it’s called poka-yoke. We can apply this idea to Christian morality, where it’s glaringly absent.

The Real God: An Epiphany
Because I was constantly being told that I'm rejecting God, and I knew that wasn't true, I decided to research rejection, which made me aware of its effects. My studies took me in a completely unexpected direction. The epiphany (pun intended) was rather shocking. The evidence indicates that the personal god is a manifestation of the ego, which explains a plethora of theistic tendencies, including their typical dislike of atheists, who theists subconsciously perceive to be rejecting...

Being a Non-Believer Where Non-Believers Are the Enemy
Today, a family friend commented on my Facebook status that they had found my blog. They said the loved me and included a smiley face. Out of fear, I immediately deleted the comment. I know people will find my blog. Rationally and reasonable, I know this is inevitable, but seeing the confirmation that someone had found it made me nauseous and fearful.

Christian Writer Tells Woman Getting Raped By Her Husband to Eliminate That Word from Her Vocabulary
The ever-disturbing BiblicalGenderRoles.com posted a letter this week from a woman seeking advice from the anonymous Christian behind the site. She laid out a disturbing picture of abuse and rape by her husband and detailed her struggle to reconcile her notion of a Christian woman’s duty to provide sex to her husband with the impact it actually had on her.

The Theologian's Nightmare
The eminent theologian Dr. Thaddeus dreamt that he died and pursued his course toward heaven. His studies had prepared him and he had no difficulty in finding the way. He knocked at the door of heaven, and was met with a closer scrutiny than he expected. "I ask admission," he said, "because I was a good man and devoted my life to the glory of God." "Man?" said the janitor, "What is that? And how could such a funny creature as you do anything to promote the glory of God?" Dr. Thaddeus was...

Sacrilege Sunday - Why I Am An Atheist
Sundays in my house are not sacred or holy. They are treated pretty much the same as any other day of the week, just a bit more lackadaisical. The mornings are usually spent in bed with my boys before getting up to either make breakfast or go out for it. I wouldn’t have them any other way. Except for the part where I have to go to work Sunday nights. Long story short, Sundays have long been Sacrilege Sundays for us as we are not church goers or believers in any way.

Yes, There Are Atheists Who Still Fear Hell
Even though I no longer believe I still find myself AFRAID of Hell. It was beaten into me for so many years it is like a fear that I am finding difficult to shake. So my question is what advice could you give me to get over this fear. Maybe you could do a blog on this topic. It is so difficult to get over this very real fear. I want to enjoy my atheism as you and many others do but this fear of hell is truly hell.

Sola fide: Does Christianity always promote morality?
When I was chatting with Linda Calhoun at the goat dairy, she brought up the “justification by faith, not works” issue as an argument against religion. What kind of God, she argued, would forgive someone who lived a life that harmed others (Hitler is the classic example), if that person simply confessed on his deathbed that he accepted Jesus as a personal savior?
