The world would be better off split up in small communities like cities / towns, instead of countries.

Policies would become much easier to manage, and democracy would be much better implemented.

Patriotism is a retarded concept and people have no reason to share a feeling of belonging when the only thing that is tying them together is the identity of a nation.

Without larger communities (which are just impossible to avoid we tend are social creatures that tend to clump together like sticky rice) innovation would be severely crippled. If disaster strikes, we could not properly mobilize to help each other.

It's just not sustainable. The moment one area has a resource in demand, people will flock to it and the tiny town/city will grow naturally. If the other communities don't rally together to cull that growth, you soon get a resource vacuum as people with skill are slowly leeched from nearby areas, all the while adding more power to that one area until they become a sort of governing force.

The system we have has many flaws, but an overall vague feeling of kinship helps lets the information and resources flow with less tension.
