A US daredevil pilot has been killed during an attempted launch of a homemade rocket in the Californian desert. "Mad" Mike Hughes, 64, crash-landed his steam-powered rocket shortly after take-off near Barstow on Saturday. A video on social media shows a rocket being fired into the sky before plummeting to the ground nearby.

Erik Oleson is moving from Netflix to Amazon. The former Daredevil showrunner, fresh off the Marvel drama's cancellation at Netflix, has signed a two-year overall deal with Amazon. Under the pact, which sources estimate is worth in the mid-seven-figure range, Oleson will create, develop and produce original series exclusively for the retailer and streamer. He landed at Amazon amid competition for the producer and showrunner's services. Sources say Netflix was also courting him for an overall pact.

Viewers were surprised by the cancellation of “Daredevil” last month; so was the cast. Charlie Cox called it “painful,” and now his castmate Amy Rutberg has said that even “people high up at Marvel” were shocked by the move — and that Netflix was solely responsible for the decision.

Charlie Cox wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Matt Murdock. For more than four years, the actor starred on Daredevil as the Catholic-guilt-ridden vigilante, and he helped pave the way for the launches of Netflix’s subsequent street-level Marvel series: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the team-up miniseries The Defenders. But despite Daredevil being one of the streamer’s most popular shows and the fact that its writers had begun breaking a fourth season, Netflix pulled the plug on the superhero drama.

Netflix shocked Marvel fans when it announced November 29 it was canceling “Daredevil” after three seasons. The show, starring Charlie Cox as the titular Hell’s Kitchen superhero, was the first Marvel series to stream on Netflix and had a passionate following. New data from Parrot Analytics, released by Deadline, makes it clear passion for “Daredevil” was still high after its third season debut earlier this year and remained huge up to the show’s cancelation. The question now must be asked: How much of a loss is Netflix facing without “Daredevil”?

New “Daredevil” showrunner Erik Oleson had a lot of crazy ideas for his run on the third season of the Marvel TV drama. And none were more insane than that ridiculous prison breakout scene in the fourth episode. The sequence, which is a single shot (meaning it was one camera continuously rolling with no cuts), spans 11-and-a-half minutes and features Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fighting his way out of a prison — without his superhero costume. Oleson himself was surprised that Marvel even allowed him to do it.

Come October 19, 2018 will officially be the year fans saw four Defenders seasons from Netflix. And while the ones we’ve seen all vary in quality, the show that seems to be the instant slam dunk is Daredevil Season 3. Paul Shirey of JoBlo took to Twitter to share his early reactions to Matt Murdock’s third outing as the Man Without Fear and it sounds incredibly promising.

Given the binge-friendly nature of Netflix content, fans will likely blow through all eight episodes of The Defenders when it premieres on Friday and be left craving more adventures from the Marvel superheroes. But they shouldn’t worry as they won’t have to wait long.
