Russian nuclear project in Finland stalls over Croatia investor
Plans to build a Russian nuclear reactor in Finland suffered a setback on Thursday afterthe government said its probe into the ownership of a Croatian investor pointed to Russia. The Croatian company reported a net profit of just $20,000 last year and has Russia-born owners, its documents and Finnish media reports showed.

Huge blaze threatens village in southern Croatia
Several dozen residents were evacuated from a village in southern Croatia on Tuesday as firefighters struggled to keep a raging forest fire away from houses, state television HRT reported. UEFA punished Croatia for swastika on soccer field

Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic goes on trial at The Hague, Netherlands, on charges of genocide and war crimes in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo. Milosevic served as his own attorney for much of the prolonged trial, which ended without a verdict when the so-called “Butcher of the Balkans” was found dead at age 64 from an apparent heart attack in his prison cell on March 11, 2006.

On August 8, 1995, in the Croatian town of Dvor, a band of soldiers rounded up nine disabled refugees inside a school and executed them. Metres away, a unit of Danish peacekeepers watched the massacre unfold. They had a clear view - through the large shattered windows - into the main hall, where most of the victims were shot dead. Croatian lawmakers have voted to dissolve parliament, days after ousting Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic. The decision paves the way for early elections, which are expected to be held in September.
