+18 +1Ontario girl who was teased for love of bugs gets name in science journal
Sophia Spencer hated it when classmates taunted her for her love of insects, but seeing them kill her pet grasshoppers for fun was even worse. Her first-grade peers couldn’t understand what she found so fascinating about bugs of all sorts or why she’d devote spare time to catching them, reading about them, and generally carrying on like a budding entomologist. As Sophia listened to schoolyard jeers that called her weird, or was forced to watch as her much-loved bugs were taken from her hands and stepped on for sport, she felt her confidence begin to wane.

+1 +1U.S. Navy swapping $38,000 periscope joysticks for $30 Xbox controllers on high-tech submarines
OK, so my 10-year-old kid could board an advanced U.S. Navy submarine and operate the periscope? That seems to be the pretty cool assumption based on the fact that sailors are now using Xbox 360 controllers to perform functions aboard some vessels. The Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported that the Microsoft game-console controllers have replaced the helicopter-style stick used to control the periscope on Virginia-class submarines.

+17 +1This police dog was fired from his job for an adorable reason
This is Gavel, a German Shepherd who was recruited as a puppy to train as a police dog - but ended up getting the sack. Unfortunately, Gavel was found to be not up to the task. As the police put it, he "did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line." The problem was, Gavel was too sociable. He loved meeting strangers, and would much rather play with someone than help arrest them. And so, after months of training, his career in law enforcement was over.

+18 +1They wanted to rob the pizza guy. They did not expect a 250-pound, ex-NFL linebacker to deliver the pie.
The plan was simple: Order a pizza, rob whoever showed up to deliver the pie. But the caper did not go as the four men expected. That was because Napoleon Harris III, arrived with the pizza in hand. Harris is a man of many hats. Not only has he served as an Illinois state senator since 2013, he is the owner of two Beggars Pizza franchises. One of which, in Harvey, Ill., received a call just before closing time on Sept. 6.
