Humans 'will bully robot cars', Mercedes chief warns
Dietmar Exler, chief executive of Mercedes-Benz USA, believes that driverless cars are likely to be 'bullied' by human drivers when the two are sharing road space. Speaking at a motoring conference in LA, Mr Exler told delegates that it human failings are the main factor slowing the development of self-driving cars - more so than technology, insurance considerations or getting even people to accept the very concept of self-driving cars. “The real issue is humans,” he said.

Tesla's Autopilot reduces crashes by 40 per cent
Tesla's driver-assistance features, known collectively as Autopilot, have been vindicated. The US Department of Transportation has closed its investigation into a May 7 collision with a tractor-trailer that killed a driver using Autopilot. The agency found no indication of a safety problem with it. In fact, the evidence provided by Tesla included crucial data that's been missing from the safety debate surrounding automated cars: crash rates.

Honda is setting up a new company to produce electric vehicle motors with Hitachi
Honda is among the few major automakers still entrenched in fuel cell hydrogen over battery-powered vehicles as an alternative fuel. The Japanese automaker has shown signs of hedging its bet lately and there’s no better way to do it than by investing in electric motors since they are used both with batteries and fuel cells. The company announced today a new joint venture with Hitachi to produce electric vehicle motors. It doesn’t mean that it is walking away from hydrogen yet despite proving to be less energy-efficient than batteries, but it’s still an investment that the EV industry should benefit from.

Dubai is buying 200 Tesla vehicles as it looks to become a leader in the self-driving-car space. Tesla will supply 200 Model S and Model X vehicles to the Dubai Taxi Corporation's fleet, according to The National, a UAE-owned, English-language newspaper. Tesla CEO Elon Musk inked the deal with the Roads and Transport Authority at the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday.

California Electric Car Sales Up 91% (1st Quarter)
The data is in. It has been sliced and diced six ways to Sunday and now it can be told. EV sales in California during the first quarter of 2017 were up 91% compared to the same quarter a year ago. Industry observers give much of the credit to the Chevy Bolt, the first all-electric car from General Motors that went on sale in the Golden State last December. 2,735 Californians opted for the Bolt in the first quarter of the year.

Electric Car Sales Are Surging, IEA Reports
The number of electric vehicles on the road rocketed to 2 million in 2016 after being virtually non-existent just five years ago, according to the International Energy Agency. Registered plug-in and battery-powered vehicles on roads worldwide rose 60 percent from the year before, according to the Global EV Outlook 2017 report from the Paris-based IEA. Despite the rapid growth, electric vehicles still represent just 0.2 percent of total light-duty vehicles.
