The Erdinger you mention is fine, but if you like dark beers in general (as I do), you should investigate Belgian dark ales.
I think I started out with Westmalle Dubbel: http://www.trappistwestmalle.be/en/page/dubbel.aspx .. then found "Gulden Draak", and.. well, there's a lot of good stuff out there.
Others in this thread have recommended Trappistes Rochefort 10, but that's a bit "heavy". Try a "La Trappe Quadrupel" though: http://www.latrappetrappist.com/be-nl/trappistenbieren/la-trappe-quadrupel/

Yeah, Trappist ales are just about the best beers out there :P
But don't forget about Weizens either! Check out Franziskaner, Paulaner and Aventinus, for example.
I'm hoping my local liquor store has one of these beers. Stopping by after work!
