In hindsight, probably when my family lived in West Papua. I haven't kept up with news of the area, but for a long time tensions were escalating and there were many violent confrontations between expats working on the big mine there and local groups. I only realized how bad it was when I decided to google my dad's name once and found a whole bunch of Australian news stories about him when he'd been part of a group of expats shot at (many of whom were killed - not my dad though).

My older brother's bedroom.
How dangerous was that?
I'm lucky to be alive. It was later declared to be a superfund site.

I was in Vancouver during the Stanley Cup riots in 2011. That was quite crazy and a little terrifying seeing cop cars on fire.
Marrakech, Morocco. Not dangerous per se, but my friend and I did some fairly risky things when we were there. Quite the holiday, so it was. :)
