This was mostly because Right-handers are the majority and you'd wear your watch on your left wrist so it would be easier to wind your watch, and it just stuck that way through-out time, but since automatic watches are more the norm (smart/digital watches too), you really shouldn't worry about which wist you wear your watch on. So you do you and everyone else can do themselves. You're not wrong.
