I do this too even though I'm right handed, but it's more for sanitary purposes, I do the dirty tasks with my left hand, because more than likely if I have an itch on my face, I'm going to use my right hand to scratch, and I don't want my hand i just opened a door with transplanting all that germ crap next to my eye. Shaking hands though is my downfall, I usually have to shake with my right, but I'll wash my hand soon after. It's a struggle.
I know what you mean. Although I don't use any particular hand in preference for doing dirty tasks, I avoid using that hand for anything clean until I can wash them.
Open doors with my left hand, even though I'm right handed, including turning keys in their locks.
