    When I take off my shoes I put the left shoe to the right of my right shoe.

        Not too sure, feels comfortable to me, take my left shoe off - cross my feet then pull my right shoe off with my left foot.

          That makes sense. The way you worded it, I thought you take your shoes off then put them the wrong way round in the cupboard or wherever.
