I love the ocean. It's beautiful, fascinating, captivating, and terrifying. It is its own world. To call the open water a wasteland would be a compliment; nothing out there cares if you are alive, nothing out there would keep you alive if it tried. And save for perhaps and odd island between literally thousands of miles of death, there is nothing to find out there either. Yet beneath the surface is a second world that pays no mind to anything happening on land. Politics could implode. Rapture could unveil. Fallout could occur. Short or seismic activity that rips the planet in half, if the surface razed itself and land life ceased to exist, the deep ocean may never bat an eye. Yet in several ways we do still depend on the sea to sustain land life. Almost as if land is an accident of nature, and the ocean is the true earth.

I've only ever observed the ocean from the beach. I hope to sail some day.
