I was going to say the same thing, HF3, they were more worried with getting Steam off the ground than taking care of the gamers, when the "episodes" came out I could see the end was near and thought it was a terrible idea.

Came here to say it as well. I think there are two dominant reasons that we won't be seeing HL3 anytime soon.

The first is that Valve would need to come up with an absolutely amazing game, in terms of graphics, story, and gameplay. The game has been hyped up for so long, that anything less than a 15/10 score would lead to disappointment from the community.

The second reason is that nobody at Valve really wants to head up the project. At Valve, you more or less work on what you want to work on. Since nobody is going to work on it, it's not going to get done.

Just think if they did though, how amazing with the graphics today would HL3 be? I'm sure if they ever needed the money they would make a killing.

I want to believe that it'll come out with their/HTC's VR system. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I could die happy if I got to play HF3, but alas I doubt it will happen!! I feel kinda ripped off to be left in the lurch with no ending to the "story" Lol....

Just a minor thing, but your first reason is exactly what we where saying when the second wasn't coming around. And we know how that ended up. I do not believe hype to be a valid argument against HL3. Second one on the other hand, I'm pretty sure you're spot on.
