I was driving my future sister-in-law to work since she didn't have a car at the time, headed to class after dropping her off I took a left hand turn only to t-bone someone else that I hadn't seen coming. We had the car towed to our garage and a few months later we decided to get it fixed. We got estimates of around $3k but found a place that estimated around $2k if we helped them out with their computers. We ended up cleaning all their computers of viruses, running cable through the building, picking out a new workstation and hooking it up with a printer. We only paid $2.2 so it was a pretty good deal. Around two months later I was driving home from a friends graduation party and my oil light starts flashing, then the battery light then bang. Engines out and I broke down, pulled over to the side of the road and slowly but surely did it decide to catch fire throwing all the work and money that we just spent repairing the fucker down the drain. Called the fire department, asked them for a screw driver to get my amp out of the back and they told us just to take it out once we have it towed. Later that day we called in and they told us we'd have to pay for the tow if we wanted to remove anything from the car. We decided against it since the tow was going to be worth more than the amp. We just handed over the title to avoid paying anymore than we had on that car.

Jeez that sucks! Did you contact the people who repaired your car to tell them it caught fire?

Yeah, they said they felt really bad about it and offered to give us a good deal on a different car. Honestly it wouldn't be worth fighting since there's no record of them fixing the car, it was all under the table.
