I love to travel and have done a lot of it... I'm from Canada but I've also lived in China, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, and India. I'm moving to Bulgaria in August.

I've visited 32-35 countries, depending on your definition of "country":

Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Netherlands, Palestine, Qatar, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, United States, Vietnam.

My favorite? This might surprise you: Syria. I LOVED Syria when I visited in 2010. It was jaw-droppingly gorgeous, filled with architectural wonders, and absolutely the friendliest, most welcoming country I've ever been to. I've had taxi drivers give me free rides, and complete strangers invite me to dinner. One guy paid for shawarmas for me, and I've received countless cups of coffee as a gesture of welcome. Not only that, but the food was just out of this world. So fresh, so good...

Other favorites for me are South Korea, India, China, and Turkey. Istanbul is probably my favorite city in the whole world. The most beautiful place I've ever seen, just a bit ahead of Damascus in Syria, was Jerusalem. Stunningly beautiful. I remember walking in Old Jerusalem and hearing the call to prayer coming from al-Aqsa at sunset, and the scene was so grippingly beautiful I broke down in tears. In terms of natural beauty, the most gorgeous place I saw was Scotland, followed closely by Lebanon's stunning countryside and Indonesia's lush volcanic landscapes.

In terms of places I haven't been but dream of going, top of my list is Iran, which sounds absolutely amazing. Next would be Bangladesh, which is probably on par with India in terms of maddening wonder. I've yet to set foot on the African continent, so that's also on my list, specifically Algeria, Ethiopia, Mali, and Senegal. Finally, one of my dreams is to visit the old Soviet cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and I'd love to see Samarkand in Uzbekistan while I'm in the "neighborhood."

    What a big, beautiful world!
