My son won an Ipad Mini at a small community festival by completing a scavenger hunt. He was 3 years old, lol.
I think the most strange thing I've won was not really an item.. We had a "casino night" at the university I attended, but there was no money. They had given each person attending a certain number of chips, and at the end of the night you were supposed to use your winnings (or losings) to buy raffle tickets.
Well it was pretty boring, and me and a couple of friends decided to get out of there but we still had a lot of chips left so on the way out we passed something like an upright roulette wheel. We figured we'd throw all our chips on the spot that gave the most payout, but was very rare to land on. It was the smallest wedge and there was no partial payout for landing on something else nearby. It also paid out 50 to 1. The lady staffing the game spun the wheel and of course it landed on it (would I be telling this story otherwise?). We were laughing because we were trying to get rid of our chips and ended up getting more. A lot more.
Well we still wanted to leave.. we were bored, we didn't want MORE chips to try to get rid of.. so we did it again. She spun the wheel, and we burst out laughing as it starting slowing, getting closer and closer to the smallest wedge on the wheel. Again it stopped on it, and we now had not 50 times what we started with, but 50 times more than that. We considered doing it again, but we saw a guy we knew and figured it would be better to give it to him.
As for why we didn't just put in for the prizes, they were all fairly lame prizes, or nothing we really wanted. We were hoping for some big prizes, but there was just a lot of smaller ones and we just wanted to get out of there rather than fill out a bunch of raffle tickets.
Won an iPad 2 for filling out a survey at University close to three years ago. Didn't keep it though, swapped it for a Nexus 10, as I'm an Android guy... Kind of regret my move, as the N10, while good, is getting slow as hell, thanks to that bad NAND...
I won a board game for donating to Worldbuilders this year (second thing I ever won, first being a plush cat when I was eleven) which made me so happy I doubled my donation.
Paid my mum for the ticket book she bought me then skedaddled home xD I was like 19 so needed to get away from the "we're friends when you buy us drinks with your money" crowd and back to the "i really would like to eat something that wasn't in the end of day specials" flat.
as for best so far - I won a small prize in a reddit gifting sub raffle and they bought my kids one of those classic rugs that has the roads and town on it? but it's HUGE. that was awesome.
I won a full-sized bag of Red Hots in the first grade. Our class had a Valentine's Day party and we had to guess how many Red Hots were in the jar to win a full bag. I won and I still remember how excited I was, all these years later. I shared the bag with everyone on my bus ride home.
I've also won a piece of art by a local photographer, $50 in a peel off (similar to a scratch off) when I was a kid, and I won a case of gum for blowing the second biggest bubble in a Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum competition when I was a kid. I've also won some random mugs and other trinkets in various competitions.

I once won around $500 in Reno! We used it for a big dinner and some extra stuff for the vacation we were on.
I received an email saying I won 1 million dollars, I just need to send a $250 handling fee via Western Union and I'll receive the money in a week.
So much suspense! What happened then? :O
I won a Magic Eye (remember those!!??) book once. I felt so cool for like 10 minutes.

I was once playing Texas hold em and won 7k and had bankrupted most of the table. Unfortunately this was just a casino night event at a youth group.
My Radio aid, I think that cost about £1700 and I have already "lost" one.
