A muscle cramp.
I don't mind pain, but I need to expect it in advance. All I did was adjust my legs in bed and suddenly my right thigh was squirming with pain. I silently screamed for a couple of minutes.
Similar thing happened to me. A complete charlie horse cramp, in my calf, when I stretched my toes out in bed, just as I was waking up that morning.
