If compensation (money or other currency) is offered, the artist and the requester both agree to the amount before the piece is completed.
Artists can ask for compensation, but just asking is by no means an agreement. Ask for something fair and negotiate with the requester before submitting the work.
Don't hand in a piece and demand payment when there is no evidence you had an agreement for payment.
