App Store analytics show we’re losing our appetite for new apps

App Store analytics suggest that Elon Musk may be right in his contention that the big problems have already been solved. While we once had an appetite for new apps, that’s no longer the case: we’re increasingly downloading the more established ones. The founding CTO of Hulu points to a stark difference in the app charts between 2014 and today …

WhatsApp now lets you control who can add you to a group

WhatsApp today announced it is rolling out changes to its messaging app to give users more control over how they engage with groups, thereby addressing one of the most pronounced privacy issues on the platform. The Facebook-owned service said users will now have an option to control who can add them to groups. Users can choose between Nobody, My Contacts (people whose phone numbers they have saved in their phone), and Everyone — assuming they don’t have any reservations about random people adding them to different groups.

The Complete Guide to Postmates Tipping Etiquette

Inc. magazine predicts that the size of the on-demand economy will reach nearly $57 billion this year, thanks to more than 35 percent of the United States workforce choosing freelance over full-time work. The popularity of the on-demand economy, and the multitude of jobs it provides, has helped fuel an at-will workforce. It’s easy to see the appeal of this new gig-based economy — work when you want, where you want, and at your own pace. But this quasi-American dream isn’t always as appealing as marketing might suggest.

Snapchat needs to fully roll out its new Android app to save itself

Snapchat is losing Android users rapidly, as the company continues to delay a full rollout of its long-coming updated app. In its earnings report today, the company announced that its daily active user numbers dropped from last quarter by 2 million, which CEO Evan Spiegel mainly attributes to lost Android users. It’s down to 186 million from 188 million users last quarter, but it’s still up from this time last year, at which point it was at 178 million. The company has always prioritized its iOS users, and only last year did it begin trying to rethink and optimize the app for Android.

New Tap App Locates Free Water Fountains to Help You Kick Bottled Water

Staying hydrated is a keystone of proper health, but with the current apocalyptic levels of plastic floating around in our oceans, drinking bottled water isn’t exactly an ethical option. It’s not just the environmental consequences that make bottled water a bad choice, though. The price of bottled water is marked up at exponential levels, and the companies that bottle that water often buy up local water rights only to sell that municipal water right back to consumers at these inflated prices.

Apple mistakenly labels itself first trillion-dollar company

Apple's Stocks app has mistakenly labelled its creator as the world's first trillion-dollar company. The firm has been hovering around the $1 trillion mark for some time, and breaking through would represent a major milestone. But the company falsely claimed to have already broken through it, because of a technical fault with the app built into the iPhone.
