The Apple Watch Series 4 is currently $349 from Amazon and Best Buy. This is $50 less than the usual cost of the wearable, which has a 40mm watchface and GPS capability. If you want the larger 44mm model, it is $379, which is also $50 off of its regular price. Both retailers offer this smartwatch in several stylings, including space gray, silver, or gold aluminum. Each model comes paired with a specific color of sport band, but you’ll be able to decide between a rubberized option and Apple’s loop band that has a woven look and feel.

Apple and the Stanford University School of Medicine each issued press releases today citing the results of the Apple Heart Study that they jointly announced in November 2017. Stanford Medicine also took its findings to the American College of Cardiology’s 68th Annual Scientific Session and Expo oday. Apple fully funded the study.

A handful of popular Apple Watch applications have been updated today with FlickType integration. FlickType is a third-party keyboard designed for the Apple Watch that uses a gesture system to streamline typing on the Apple Watch’s display, and a new SDK makes it easier for developers to implement the keyboard.

We’ve reported several times about the Apple Watch Series 4’s ECG functionality alerting unsuspecting users to seek medical attention. In addition to ECG, however, the Series 4 has a fall detection functionality. That feature is what one Norweigan Apple Watch user credits with saving his life. As reported by NRK, 67-year-old Toralv Østvang was found “bloody and unconscious” on his bathroom floor by emergency authorities. According to the report, Østvang fell in his bathroom, with the Apple Watch automatically alerting emergency authorities.

The Apple Watch Series 4’s ECG function has only been available for a month, but it’s already proving to be life-saving for some. WMUR reports today that a Nashua, New Hampshire man discovered he had atrial fibrillation with his Apple Watch, and rushed to the emergency room. Barry Maden said he originally bought the Apple Watch to “keep a closer eye on his health after suffering a brain injury.” His wife concurred with this reasoning, citing the device’s Fall Detection feature...

Apple released watchOS 5.1.2 yesterday, and with it was the much-anticipated ECG app. While most were excited to try it out and saw a normal sinus rhythm, some weren’t so lucky. A new report from one user describes how his surprising ECG results may have saved his life. As users are getting their Apple Watches updated, one user on Reddit found an unexpected result after taking their ECG: it came back with A-fib (atrial fibrillation). Naturally, as Apple even states themselves, the Apple Watch can return false-positives at times. So he tried “again and again and again”, and it still returned A-fib.

Starting today, the ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 marks the first direct-to-consumer product that enables customers to take an electrocardiogram right from their wrist, capturing heart rhythm in a moment when they experience symptoms like a rapid or skipped heart beat and helping to provide critical data to physicians. The irregular rhythm notification feature on Apple Watch can now also occasionally check heart rhythms in the background and send a notification if an irregular heart rhythm that appears to be atrial fibrillation (AFib) is identified.

These ‘bug fix’ versioned Apple software betas keep delivering with all sorts of little additions. New in watchOS 5.1.2 is a Control Center toggle for Walkie-Talkie. Up to now, Walkie-Talkie availability had to be changed in the Walkie-Talkie app itself. There’s a switch at the top of the friends list in the Walkie-Talkie app to toggle availability. With watchOS 5.1.2, you can now do this from anywhere in watchOS thanks to a new Control Center toggle.

Spotify is currently testing an Apple Watch app that’s expected to debut soon. We’ve been able to get access to Spotify’s Apple Watch app ahead of its release to try it out and find out what’s in store. The app itself appears to be an initial release with very basic features. There’s no offline support for playing Spotify songs on the Apple Watch away from your iPhone, and you can’t stream songs to an Apple Watch over LTE.

The new S4 chip in the Apple Watch Series 4 is an absolute beast when it comes to processing power. Apple just announced a new Watch called Apple Watch Series 4. The new Apple Watch comes with a larger, edge-to-edge screen, giving it the biggest facelift since its launch in 2014. The screen is 30 percent larger than the previous version, while the device itself has become thinner.

Apple is facing a lawsuit over its marketing for the Apple Watch. While the company markets the device as “brilliantly scratch-resistant,” an Ontario man is taking issue with that as he claims the device is actually very susceptible to scratches and tarnishes.

The Apple Watch will be getting solid state buttons that don’t move up and down but rather sense the touch of a finger, a source with direct knowledge of Apple’s plans tells Fast Company. Apple will stick with the Watch’s current button configuration, with a button and a digital crown situated on one side of the device, but neither will physically click as before. Rather than reacting to the user’s touch by physically moving back and forth, the new buttons will vibrate slightly under the fingertip, using the haptic effect Apple calls the Taptic Engine. (The digital crown will still physically rotate to navigate through content.)

According to Cardiogram founder Brandon Ballinger’s latest clinical study, the Apple Watch can detect diabetes in those previously diagnosed with the disease with an 85 percent accuracy. The study is part of the larger DeepHeart study with Cardiogram and UCSF. This particular study used data from 14,000 Apple Watch users and was able to detect that 462 of them had diabetes by using the Watch’s heart rate sensor, the same type of sensor other fitness bands using Android Wear also integrate into their systems.
