Astronauts have wonky thymic immune activity in space, which could impact their ability to respond to infection
Scientists looked at thymic function in 16 astronauts before and after they had an extended space flight. The output of T cells and glucocorticoid production were reduced and suppressed after a long period in space. This has the potential to influence the T cell repertoire, which might impact the ability of space travellers to mount robust immune responses to infection.
