As entertaining as he's been, I don't think Trump will have much staying power in this election. He doesn't seem small government/small military enough to appeal the Libertarians of the party. I don't think his positions on social issues are conservative enough for the Christian right as his stance on marriage equality is questionable at best. His jingoism, xenophobia, and vitriol will resonate with the neocons and the wingnuts, but that alone won't create enough broad based appeal for him to have a reasonable shot at the primary.
My father in law is a die hard republican and he likes Trump purely because he's seen as a straight shooter. I'll admit that it is refreshing to have a candidate that appears to lack any sort of filter between his brain and his mouth. But that alone does not a viable candidate make.
I completely agree here. If I remember, Shepard Smith (FOX News) said he was the embodiment of NYC tabloid culture and I think that hits another point on his un-electability. The first debate in August will get clear and more appealing policies and views from the other candidate and will leave Trump wide open with his lack of policies and specifics.
