Not really his main point, but it is interesting to me how this kind of rhetoric can lump socialism together so smoothly with amorality and the undermining of Christian values. I'm not sure the Bible has anything against social regulation of a market.

It's also fairly impressive how easily he talks about the deterioration of the American family without doing anything beyond alluding to it as being the product of a decrease in Christian values. He doesn't cite anything in particular, never betrays any kind of bigotry. I'm not saying he's a bigot, but if I wanted a demographic of particularly intolerant people to vote for me without outrightly offending anyone, I'd probably go about it similarly.

It doesn't. But he anointed his son to be king and oversee the transfer of wealth to believers which isn't something that could happen in a socialist economy. Capitalism is his best bet to accomplish that goal, and there's no better time to make that move than right now.

This is a form of dog whistle politics. You never say anything that can be pinned down as objectionable, but you get your message across to your target audience just the same. This is one of the big reasons why the Republican leadership is horrified by Trump because he's blatantly espousing rhetoric that was previously only delivered through dog whistle tactics.

Thanks for the first link to there, it definitely gives some insight into the mindset. I can't say that I'm very familiar with Ted Cruz or his constituents, but will probably start reading up if he ends up as a nominee.
