On the anniversary of its passage, revisiting the history of the Fourteenth Amendment
Thursday marks the 147th birthday of the Fourteenth Amendment. Over the course of its nearly century-and-a-half of life, this amendment — and the broader vision of equality and human rights that it offered — was nearly strangled in its cradle by the Supreme Court of the United States.
