Let me repeat again that these cases are not anomalies. The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services are very clear on this. They require that reproductive health care become an emergency matter before they’ll treat it if treatment might terminate a pregnancy or otherwise violate their religious ideas of ethics. They won’t stop a situation from becoming an emergency. They won’t even consider an infection with fever to be an emergency.

My grand-mother was badgered weekly by the priest who'd come to her house to tell her she needed to have another child. Even though it would have killed her. And obviously, if there was any complication, the hospital would save the baby before her because the Church controlled 100% of the hospitals in Quebec. And they did also control education (which Canada bribed them with so they would make a mortal sin not to join Canada) and obviously they disapproved of people getting education past elementary school.
Kicking those evil bastatards off their pedestal was the most important thing we ever did.
