Wouldn’t want to interfere with all the feckless hagiography going on here, but this kind of ‘conventional wisdom’ cries out for at least a passing attempt at getting it right. It’s one thing to hold critics to account, and another to canonize as a saint someone that if we're honest, was anything but.
